Tips for using this graph:
- After surgery, PSA should drop to undetectable ( 0.1 ng/mL). Any rise above 0.2 ng/mL may indicate recurrence.
- After radiation, PSA drops slowly over 1–3 years. The lowest point is called the "nadir." A rise of 2.0 ng/mL above the nadir may indicate recurrence.
- A temporary PSA rise after radiation ("PSA bounce") is common and usually not a sign of cancer returning.
- PSA doubling time (how fast PSA doubles) is more important than a single value.
