What I study, and why.

My research program centers on improving how we diagnose, treat, and live with prostate cancer — and on broader questions in radiation science that touch every cancer patient. Below are the six themes that shape most of my work.

Prostate Cancer Treatment

Personalizing treatment selection across surgery, radiation, brachytherapy, hormone therapy, and combinations. Trials, meta-analyses, and outcomes research in localized, recurrent, and metastatic disease.

AI & Digital Pathology

Multimodal deep learning for prostate cancer risk stratification, treatment selection, and trial design. Validated on NRG Oncology phase III randomized trial datasets.

Brachytherapy

Clinical outcomes, dose optimization, and safety of brachytherapy — including in difficult populations such as inflammatory bowel disease and prior pelvic radiation.

Climate & Sustainability

First quantification of greenhouse gas emissions from radiation therapy, published in Lancet Oncology. Ongoing work on hypofractionation, telehealth, and the carbon footprint of cancer care.

Carbon Ion & Particle Therapy

Reviews and clinical research from training at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences in Japan. Comparative studies of carbon ions, protons, and conventional radiation across disease sites.

Patient Access & Global Oncology

International collaboration on radiotherapy access, hypofractionation adoption, travel distance to care, and cancer care delivery in resource-limited and conflict-affected settings.
